Built by the Port of London Authority as a cutter for use on the Thames tidal way. The Alix Cowie is a fine example of her kind, just shy of 23 feet long and 7 foot 9 wide she makes for a very stable working launch, eminently suitable as a jobing day boat. As a commercial work boat, she makes no pretence to luxury however she will happily accommodate up to eight adults plus two children on her bench seats, with room for a dog or two.
Autum 2017 the Alix Cowie underwent a full structural servey, needless to say she aced it.
Spring 2018 She passed her Non Private Boat Safety Certificate.

Our owner/skipper Ben has over 40 years of boating experiance, ranging from racing high performance dingy's on the Solent to working commercial barges on the European canal network. Ben is also a qualified forest worker with over 25 years in the field. A bit like the Alix Cowie Ben has decided to throttle back a little and invites you to join him on the Monmouth and Brecon canal.
Joe our stand by helm and some times crew member is an expert mountain bike rider, qualified to lead groups that wish to explore the Beacons on two wheels. Joe is also a keen photographer and wildlife enthusiast.
While we are liscenced to opperate along the whole of the canal our primery area of opperations is between Brecon Basin and the five locks at Llangynidr.
The Brecon basin has a cafe at the theatre and parking, pay and display. An hour or so from here is the lovely Brynich lock and aqueduct. From there another hour will see you at Pencelli where we can more up behind the Royal Oak pup, good food and fine ales. (by car from Brecon 10 mins max)
Another hour of cruising and you arrive at the delightful village of Talybont on Usk. Talybont is very much a gatway village to the beacons and reservoirs. It boasts three pubs (the Star Inn is my recomendation) and a great little village shop/cafe selling home made cakes plus of course good hot food. If your planing a wee trip on the canal, this is where you can stock up.
Continuing on from there for another twenty mins and you've reached the Ashford tunnel a spooky 375 yard hand cut tunnel. From there the five locks and picnic area at Llandynidr locks just fourty mins.
As you see there are many options and we could be opperating at any point along this route. For that reason we recomend you call us so that we may discuss you requirement and taylor your pick up and drop off to suit you.
Of course you may come across us at rest or pottering along empty, in which case flag us down for a ride.
